Hanukkah Latkes w/ Smoked Salmon & Dill
For Hanukkah my grandmother always made delicious, lacy potato pancakes with lots of chopped onion, also called "latkes".
We loved them with applesauce or sour cream, same as her blintzes. They were delicious.
I serve mine with smoked salmon, creme fraiche and dill, a bit fancier than my grandmother's version from Queens, NY.
Here is Ina's recipe for latkes, which are the best.
You can add some scallions and carrots to the mixture, but then they are not really potato pancakes anymore, but vegetables pancakes!
Pile on some lox or good quality Scottish smoked salmon, light the menorah and open your presents for 8 nights.
Sounds good to me!
Have a Happy Hanukkah!

Ms. Snacks - I have a favor to ask of you.
My husband and his two work colleagues are arranging a holiday lunch.
Three over 6 feet software executives. Good, hearty appetites - no food fussiness.
Midtown location but will travel for food.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hard to get into any restaurant this week in midtown! I have tried for a Tues night reservation for 4 and nothing is available in the city.....
I am not a midtown girl, and try not to venture below 24th St......however, I love The Modern (if I have to be in the theatre district), their front room is so great. Danny Meyer's restaurant next to the The Museum of Modern Art. Always good.
Another great choice (Southern Italian, and so good) is I Trulli on E 27th. I bet they could do a luncheon for 6.
Quality Italian on 57th is excellent, though pricey, but who cares, it's the holidays.
Let me know where they go!

Have a happy Hanukah Stacey!
