Brussels Sprouts w/ Bacon & Almonds

Nothing too crazy going on here, except deliciousness.

This is an easy one, and a crowd pleaser.

I love buying Brussels sprouts on the stalk. How come I never saw that until about 3 years ago?

Trader Joe's sells them for $3.49 for the whole stalk, a bargain if you ask me.

This is a great recipe for Thanksgiving.

B.S. w/ Bacon & Almonds:

1 stalk of Brussels sprouts, pulled from the stalk, and trimmed and quartered
8 slices of bacon
2 large shallots, sliced
1/4 cup of sliced almonds
squeeze of a lemon
kosher salt & pepper

Start by cooking your bacon. Once it is crispy and the fat is rendered, remove it to paper towels to drain. Crumble into bits and set aside.

Drain most of the fat from the pan, leaving about 2 tbsp., and saute the sprouts in the bacon fat (yum). Add the shallots and saute until crispy, add the bacon and almonds in at the last minute. The whole process should take about 8 minutes total.

Squeeze in some lemon juice and season w/ kosher salt & pepper.

Enjoy!

Those are a bargain Stacey. Thanks for reminding me. I seldom go to TJ's. My dad has given me those stalks of brussels sprouts from his garden. This recipe is a winner and will be on my plate soon.
Yum! TJ's didn't have them yet last week but hopefully they will be in now. I love buying them like that too. They seem so much fresher.
Total bargain, I buy them too!
Love the almonds with bacon, but I've noticed the price of almonds have gone up lately.

Didn't see the stalks at my TJ's this afternoon. Thanks for the intro to molly yeh's blog - she's illegally cute. I like her Brooklyn hipster style - transplanted to a farm.

What a steal at TJ's! I haven't purchased them on a stalk (yet) and I too never saw them that way until a few years ago. We used to buy them in one of those little tubs covered in plastic at the supermarket. I've made a similar dish to this one using the shredded brussels sprouts from TJ's but instead of the shallots and almonds I've added balsamic vinegar. Your recipe sounds delish - can't wait to try it!

I didn't eat Brussels Sprouts until about a year ago. I roast them in the oven with some salt, pepper and olive oil, then toss in some roasted pecans, dried cranberries and a drizzle of maple syrup. I think I'm going to give your recipe a try for Thanksgiving this year. Always looking for a new way to use Brussels Sprouts.
