I Feel Fat: DETOX Shaved Brussels Sprouts w/ Red Onion & Pecorino

Why do I always overdo it during the holidays? Why can't I just heed my own advice: MODERATION.

But no, I have to try every dessert, have second helpings of stuffing, eat fat turkey sandwiches slathered with mayo all weekend long (yum!), and drink way too much wine. Why? Because I can't say no.

I am glad leggings are in style. It's like wearing sweat pants, you can just keep eating and the elastic waist keeps expanding, so it's a trick.

Well, today I feel lousy, and deservingly so.

Here is my first detox salad of the week.

It's simple to put together and you'll feel healthier after eating it.
It's from Food52.

Shaved Brussels Sprouts Salad:

Dressing:
juice of a lemon
1 tsp honey
1 tsp whole grain mustard
2 tbsp olive oil

Salad:
3 cups of Brussels sprouts, shaved on a mandolin
1/2 red onion, shaved into thin slices
sea salt & pepper
1/4 cup of grated Pecorino cheese

Trim the ends of the sprouts and shave them (carefully) with a mandolin. If you don't have a mandolin, you can chop them very fine with a chef's knife.

Soak the onion slices in cold water for 15 minutes to take the bite out of them and add them to a bowl w/ the shaved sprouts.

Mix the dressing with a fork and add to the salad just before serving. Sprinkle w/ Pecorino and season w/ sea salt & pepper.
Serve immediately.

Enjoy!

Beautiful salad, Stacey! (I love red onions, but most people don't seem to soak them first.) Hope you're feeling detoxed soon!

Stacey -- For the benefit of your devoted blog readers whom have never met you -- you are a stunning woman with a lovely figure and gorgeous legs to your shoulders. You might "feel" fat, but there is no way anyone in their right mind would ever think of you as that. That being said, I appreciate the detox recipes because some of us are not as genetically gifted as you are and really have "overdone" the holiday eating! And I loved every minute of it -- especially your hot artichoke dip which sold out in minutes.

I had pumpkin pie for breakfast. I do currently have Brussels Sprouts and red onion in my fridge.
Even though you don't feel good, I know you still look great. I feel the same! Had a hard boiled egg and oatmeal for breakfast, now a salad for lunch.

It's so, so hard. I swore I'd be good starting today and had oatmeal for bkfast and green salad for lunch. But I slipped already and ate two pieces of chocolate and a peanut butter and jelly English muffin.

With a double dose of Thanksgiving this year, I need some detox as well. This brussels salad is definitely the way to go!

Stacey ~ I'm glad you had a great Thanksgiving. And there's nothing as tasty the day after as a turkey sandwich slathered with Hellman's. Ok, I'm going to ruin all these obsessing comments about eating and weight gain ... substitute the female authors' comments with male voices. Can you picture men carrying on about overeating and how they look in their tightening waistbands?! I think not. It's one day for Pete's Sake. Enjoy it and stop apologizing and worrying about being "good"! To the Japanese Redneck ~ good for you a eating a whole pie. I can just picture you curled up on the sofa inhaling and swooning over every lucious bite! Anyway, Stacey thanks for the brussels sprout salad recipe; I'm going to make it tonight!
Sweat pants and leggins are two of the best inventions. I love mayo sandwiches with turkey and really bad white bread - not toasted, please! I've had a salad like this in a Pasadena restaurant and it is really a good cleanse. !! Yummy also. You are a hoot Stacie!

Mmmm...I've been eyeing that salad myself (because there is NO WAY I'm going to be seen in public in MY leggings). Nice to see your seal of approval on it. Sounds like you had a great holiday..Yippee!
I can't detox til January, I know I'll fail! You're so good!
