The Luberon & The Markets

We took a ride to the Luberon to visit some vineyards and the beautiful surrounding villages.
It was only amazing.

Our first stop was a winery called Chateau La Coste. A biodynamic vineyard designed by the famous architect Frank Gehry. We had a private tour along with an olive oil and wine tasting. I hope the olive oil makes it home in my luggage!

Everything is made organically and by AOC standards with the most modern technology. Fig and olive trees surround the property and it was breathtaking.

Next stop the Luberon and Montagne Sainte Victoire. GORGEOUS.

The Marquis de Sade Castle, ancient ruins, steep villages built on mountain tops and beautiful churches, along with amazing houses and great local markets abound.

Each town or village has their own once a week market (marche) with locally made saucisson (dried salami sausage), local cheeses, produce and olives.

Agriculture is big here, considering 300 days a year of sunshine, so you can just imagine the produce. Purple artichokes in September? Not where I live.

You like chickens? Fresh eggs and freshly killed chickens (necks and feathers still in tact) is what you'll get.

We visited the charming Villages of Bonnieux, Lacoste, Lourmerin & Menerbes. Each one unique with SPECTACULAR views.

Hope you enjoyed the photo tour.

We head back to Paris for 2 more days then we fly home. :<

Great tour and commentary Stacey. What a beautiful region. Those sausages and fruits and veggies are so enticing, I'd never want to go home. You and Henry are such a striking couple - The French gov't should hire you two to lure people to the area.

I spent the summer in Lacoste many years ago. Did you see any of the SCAD buildings or art students?
