Watermelon Cooler

watermelon drink6

Remember back in college when you put a funnel in a watermelon and poured vodka in it and everyone stuck a straw in and drank from the melon?

Ah, the good old days.

I obviously majored in Mixology in school.

Here is a more refined way to have your watermelon cocktail.
One straw per person, please.

Watermelon Cooler: (makes 4 cocktails)

4 cups melon balls, scooped out of a whole watermelon w/ a melon baller
4 lime wedges for garnish (or mint leaves)

3/4 cup Vodka
1/3 cup Rose's lime juice (lime juice and simple syrup mixture)

Put the melon balls in the freezer for a few hours. When they are nice and firm, puree the frozen watermelon in a blender (saving a few frozen melon balls for ice cubes) and then adding the liquor & Rose's.

The cocktail will be slushy and refreshing! Garnish with mint leaves or lime wedges.

Enjoy!

Lol... I totally remember those days! Love this easy summer time drink recipe!
Hahaha, I remember driving around my neighbourhood with a vodka-soaked watermelon trying to find a compost bin to dispoe of it in after having a party at my parents' house when I was a wee bit to young to be doing such things. Turns out it's hard to dispose of a whole watermelon inconspicuously. Only now I'm thinking that we could have cut it up...

Nice. Wish I had one in hand right now and it's barely 9:00 a.m. Fruit for breakfast!

Stacey - I missed out on that class, but I'll make up for it now. I love the idea of that cocktail and want to try it asap down here at the shore with my high school buddies.
I'm impressed! Some of us learned nothing in college! This sounds wonderful!

Naw, can't say I ever did that. The watermelon part sounds good anyway.
Watermelon is so great in mixed drinks. I confess I never did the watermelon thing in college. I was way too geeky. I did spend some time blending my own cocktails out of whatever spirits I was keeping around. I made drinks like "Something Quite Peculiar" and the "Fuzzy Lemon Driver".
Happy watermelon day! I just bookmarked another watermelon drink using light rum and cointreau, but this one looks wonderful too :)

That's hilarious. Never did that; we were too busy drinking Boone's Farm Apple wine, Mogan David w/gingerale or Cold Duck (college in GA). ha. But your idea is certainly inspiring - you could riff on that with a grapefuit and have a Salty Dog!

Makes me want to get a watermelon right this minute and add some vodka to it; a welcome respite from the heat and humidity these days!
You sure do have your way with watermelon Stacey. This looks great. I still enjoy your watermelon salad from last year. It always gets rave reviews every time I serve it.

I'm going to be sad when I can't buy watermelons anymore, I get one every week, but now I'll have to break out the vodka in the freezer!
