Picnic Macaroni Salad w/ Tuna

All of you mayonnaise haters, turn away.

I love mayonnaise. I should get royalties for all the times I mention Hellman's REAL mayo!!!!

This is old school, comfort food, not to be made in 90 degree weather, or it will spoil. It is for air conditioned parties only.

This recipe is not for the pasta salad snob.

It is straight from my childhood.
I could eat the whole bowl and I LOVE it.

I have never met a person who didn't like this.
It's sort of like my classic potato salad recipe, but with tuna in it.

Picnic Macaroni Salad w/ Tuna:

1 lb. pasta shells, cooked and rinsed
1/2 of a yellow or red onion, minced
4 ribs celery, sliced
2 carrots, peeled and diced
2 cans tuna in water, drained
3 hard boiled eggs, chopped (optional)
1/2 bag of frozen peas, defrosted

3 big globs of Hellman's mayo (not the lowfat kind)
2 tbsp Gulden's spicy brown mustard
2 heaping tablespoons of pickle relish w/ some of the pickle juice
salt & pepper

Mix all ingredients together and refrigerate for 2 hours before serving.

Enjoy!

I started to slink away in shame after your first line, but I figured I'd stick around and see what you came up with. I'm a bit of a mayo hater, but I confess an occasional craving for that petrified grocery store macaroni salad. This recipe sounds like something my aunt used to make when we were kids. Time for a revival!

I love this - yesterday I bought ingredients for my once-a-year macaroni and tuna salad - only with Hellman's. I don't get the love affair the Midwest has with Miracle Whip!

Yours is very close to how my mother made this salad back in the day. (Delicious)
I don't hate mayo, it's just that there's a million fat calories in each glob you put it, if I had your perfect metabolism stacey, I would eat this up in a heartbeat! Lowfat mayo is just not the same.
Oh, I've been meaning to tell you I love your new photo, you're so photogenic! Maybe I should change mine, after all I am 3 years older! That's probably why I don't change it! lol

I don't hate mayo as much as my hubby hates peas. Now with that being said, I'll explain.

I never ate mayo or mayo products for much of my life. Only started eating it in tuna salad/mac salad, etc.

Hubby won't eat peas at all. Digs them out.....

I think I could eat this!

Hubby and I were talking about how much he loved his Aunt's pasta salad with tuna in it just this morning! I went online and saw your recipe for the day and thought "she's psychic". I made this for him for lunch and he LOVED it!!! Another success. Thanks again!

Stacey, this is one of my favorite summer recipes. Thanks for the memory! Everything in it is terrific and it's defnitely for mayonnaise lovers. I discovered a mayo even better than Hellman's - it's by Cain. You can order it on line. Our local sub shop uses it and I always get a little container on the side. If I were not watching my carbs, I would eat this salad! Thank you, Stacey! Lisa
I had to make a last minute salad for a crowd. This was quick, easy, and delicious! I didn't put in the tuna or eggs and when you divide up the mayo between so many eaters, it's not so calorie heavy. Everyone loved it and had second helpings. So fast and easy it'll be a "go to" salad--especially for a crowd! Oh yeah, I only had bowtie pasta so it was very pretty too!
