Cherry Chutney Crostini w/ Goat Cheese & Sage

martha cherry6

It's that time of year again, when my friend Martha delivers the mother load of freshly picked Bing cherries to my door.

It is a beautiful thing having 5 lbs of gorgeous ripe cherries, but try pitting all of them to make chutney.

No good deed goes unpunished.

I set myself up outside on a chair with 2 bowls, one for the cherries and one for the pits.

I put a full length apron on and use a cherry pitter, but the red juice still gets everywhere.

After I am done, I am ready for the nut house and it looks like a bloody massacre all over my patio.

(this is only 1/4 of the pitted cherries!)

I made my annual batch of cherry chutney and paired it with some herb goat cheese and fresh sage from my garden.

If you have the time, have a lot of cherries and a lot of patience, then I highly recommend this!

I am just imagining the fabulous flavor of that chutney combined with the cheese and sage and wishing I had a neighbor who gave me 5 lbs. of cherries. It's worth the stained hands. Can you process the jars in a hot water bath and have them all winter?

I might have to try this but sub in Plums. We have a second wave of them coming in soon and I don't want to waste them.

Looks great.

I like pitting cherries, not cleaning up after, but the pitting is fun. And, cherries with goat cheese is so good. Your chutney sounds fantastic!

Your cherry chutney recipe sounds delicious and easy to make just mix and boil. The hardest part looks like measuring the ingredients correctly. Obviously, I will be trying this as is and another version with bread rubbed with garlic

Wow - this looks amazing. We just finished the big tub of cherries from costco (since I don't have a friend to bring fresh ones to me) - and I think I may be making a run back there this weekend for more so I can try this! Sage & goat cheese is one of my favorite combos - this looks divine!
I'm picturing you with your apron on and the juice squirting all over the place, aaaah but it's worth it, look how good that looks!
