Candy Cake

What to do with all that leftover Halloween candy?

I know I should THROW IT OUT, but I saw this funny recipe on Tastespotting, so figured, what's the harm?

I used 1 cup of chopped candy (I had peanut M&M's and Reeses Peanut Butter cups), and made a simple vanilla cake.

To chop the M&M's, place in a ziploc bag and with the back of a glass, smash them!

I baked it in a bundt pan and it was delicious!

Trick or Treat?

Does anyone ever actually do a "trick"?

I modified the recipe because it only called for 30 minutes baking time, which was way too short, I had to put the cake back in for another 20 minutes or so, and I cut the candy down to 1 cup.

Candy Cake (from Natalie's Killer Cuisine):

1 stick butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 egg, room temperature
2 egg whites, room temperature
3/4 cup milk
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup Halloween candy, chopped (I used Reese's peanut butter cups and peanut M&M's)

preheat oven to 350 degrees

1. Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the egg/egg whites and mix until fully combined.

2. In a separate bowl combine the flour, baking power and salt. Set aside.

3. Add the milk and vanilla extract to the egg moisture, mix until fully combined. The mixture may look curdled, but it's not.

4. Add your dry ingredients and mix until just fully combined.

5. Chop up your candy ahead of time and add the candy bits to the cake batter and fold until combined. Pour into a well greased bundt pan and bake 50-60 minutes.

Top with powdered sugar and eat!
This is a very decadent cake.

I think I will make this next Halloween!

That is a good idea for leftover Halloween candy.

It fits the bill as a Halloween cake!

This looks realllly good! The cake looks so moist and it's so fun that it's full of candy. I agree with you - a great thing to make for next Halloween!

I like that the cake looks a little like a fruit cake with the candy colors showing through. Cute idea!

Great idea! Unfortunately, I bought some kind of mix that included Tootsie Rolls and Charleston Chews so I don't think those would work so well in a cake. I need Randy to take it all to work with him!

We have so much candy to eat up. What a tasty and creative recipe.

Heh, that looks awesome. Although I'm shocked you would throw out candy, that's like some kind of blasphemy!

That's a lot of candy, but what a great way to use it up!

Great Scott! I'm getting a toothache just looking at it. How evil would I be to make this and then bring it to my office at work? Hehehehe. Great idea, Mrs. I-Don't-Bake!
This is insane! Since I ate all the candy before the trick or treaters even arrived, I would need to go buy some more ...
this is a great idea - I was thinking along these lines and as a way to use up an amish friendship bread
oh my...this looks totally disgusting.

Now that's a real sugar high for all the candy lovers out there. I usually buy one extra bag of candy at Halloween in case we need it - and it's always Hershey's Special Dark bars - great for baking - or eating.

How fun! I needed that recipe about fifteen years ago when my children were around with too much candy after Halloween.
This will definitely keep dentist's in business, but I have to admit, it's a great idea.
Love it. I should have thought to do this with my leftover candy. Then again, I tend to buy my least favored candy so I don't eat it all anyway.

You can also put it into cookies, but I suppose that's kind of overdone...
What a great way to use left-over Halloween candy and so much better for you than eating it all by yourself.
