My Best Kitchen Investment: Dansko Clogs!

So, your back has been bothering you from standing at the kitchen sink all day?

Mine was KILLING me. I couldn't stand on my tile floors another minute without being in misery.

I have always had lower back issues and standing and cooking for hours does not help one's back health.

I actually had to give up catering years ago because I couldn't stand the pain anymore (or the lack of pay! $$$$$).

After seeing chiropractors and acupuncturists (which certainly helped a little bit), a friend recommended Dansko professional clogs for me.

I did much research and found that many chefs and nurses, people that are on their feet for 12 hours straight, wore these shoes and LOVED THEM!

At first they felt funny, they have odd arch supports and are wide, but once you get used to them, you will never take them off. I can not cook without them on my feet.

They helped me so much in my road to feeling good again, along with exercise, weight training and less stress. It sounds odd that a pair of shoes could help in feeling well. See Dr. Jerry Sanders Shoe Blog.

When I purchased them 4 years ago, they only came in black or brown or white for nurses. Today, they come in patent leather, animal prints and Tartan plaid!

As far as kitchen tools go, besides my Le Creuset Dutch oven, these are the best $110 kitchen investment I have made.

Hey, I thought Mario Batali wore orange clogs, but they are those rubber Crocks. Different shoe totally.

Stacey, My daughter swears by her Dansko's! They balance your foot so well. Me, I'm a Merrell girl, I could walk and cook for hours in them!

It's all about comfort when you are standing and working in the kitchen. Definitely worth the investment!

I wear both Dansko and Crocs and love them both. But Danskos when I have to stand for a long period - they're the best!

I think we are actually going to tear up our tile & put cork in the kitchen, apparently this will help with the achiness as well...though a little bigger investment ;)

I'm a croc gal in the kitchen, but these look a heck of a lot nicer! I'm with you on the Le Creuset - My mom gave me an orange set 15 years ago, and I love it more than any diamonds or shoes!

Hey- I lost 3 lbs this week!! I am SO sore, lol...

hmmm...i hate wearing shoes (maybe because i bind my feet all day long in pointe shoes) but I was thinking of getting a rubbery mat to put down because of my back. But, for me it is not lower back, it is upper back. Weird, right?

Looks really comfortable Stacey. Have you tried Mephisto Sandal? I've been wearing that brand for 20 yrs. Extremely comfortable.

p.s. Your comment about giving you next pet name's LULU was pretty funny. I take that as a compliment. In France, sometimes they call their poodle "lulu" LOL.
Cheers,
Elra

Oh I have to look into this shoe for sure. It's cute with that leaf pattern! Good advice.

Happy Valentine's Day Stace!

What a great idea. I have horrible lower back problems from cooking all day on a hard wood floor (usually without any shoes on at all!)

I don't know how Mario can cook w/ crocs!

Ok, I think if you were here right now you'd slap me... Me & hubby just got back from Cabela's. I was strolling around in their "Bargain Cave", and came across a pair of these Danskos. They fit perfect, and SO comfortable. I had never looked up the price of a pair when you first posted this. I had never even heard of them before. So I put them back on the shelf and thought, hmmm, do I need another pair of shoes..? I came home and looked up the price, then totally kicked myself!! The clearance price was $15... I'm gonna try and run back there tonight!!

So happy to hear you're still cooking in those Danskos! There are so many styles now, but for cooking the full/closed back, plain ones are best. There's no better support for your back...
