My Adventures w/ Trader Ming (Stir Fry)

Dinner isn't always a planned event in this house. Some nights I come home after work and say "what am I going to make for dinner?". I am tired and have had no time to buy fresh fish that day, or fresh produce at the farmers' market, or plan a blog worthy meal, and I despise takeout food in this neighborhood, so what to feed the hungry man?

Trader Joe's is a great place. They have some terrific marinades and also some great frozen appetizers, always good to have on hand. I bought this marinade called "Trader Ming's SOYAKI". It is a mixture of soy, teriyaki sauce, garlic and other flavors, all natural, though a bit high in sodium for my taste.
Really decent in a pinch. Use it sparingly, since it is salty.

I made this excellent chicken and green bean stir fry w/ walnuts. My husband loved it. I didn't tell him how easy it was to make. It is good enough to serve for company, and is much better than the local Chinese takeout place.
Thank you Trader Ming, whoever you are! You saved me!

Chicken & Green Bean Stir Fry w/ Walnuts: (enough for 4 people)

1 package partially frozen chicken breasts, sliced paper thin (easier to slice when still frozen)
1 lb. fresh green beans, trimmed & steamed for 2 minutes (partially cook)
3 cloves of garlic, roughly chopped
1/4 cup of walnut halves
1/4 cup of Trader Ming's SOYAKI Asian marinade
A pinch of hot pepper flakes (optional)

Marinate your sliced chicken in a zip loc bag with the 1/4 c. of marinade for at least an hour (you can do this in the a.m. before you leave for work). Keep in the fridge. It will totally defrost in the marinade.

Heat peanut oil in a heavy skillet or wok (I don't own a wok-----don't buy me one either, I have no room to store one).
Throw your partially cooked beans, walnuts and garlic into the skillet and stir fry for a few minutes on high heat, so the beans get crispy and have some brown marks.
Remove green beans and walnuts and place in a separate bowl.
Now, add your chicken from the bag and stir fry on high until cooked. Add your beans to the chicken and a little more marinade if it looks dry.
The idea is to serve this over rice, but I didn't have any, so served it by itself!

Looks good! I just LOVE Trader's Joes. Did you ever try the frozen brown rice? It is great. Just pop it in the microwave for 3 minutes and it is done.

Hi Lisa,
Frozen brown rice? Now that's intriguing! I will look for it next time. I love the frozen Alsatian tart, the onions, creme fraiche & ham. It is better than my homemade one!

Yum! Must try the Alsatian tart at TJ's! Had it at The Modern last night....soooo delicious! We had the Egg in a Jar (good), Lemon Papardelle (v. good!) and the duck (good sauce...small portion but we were pretty full by that point anyway). Can't wait to go back, lots more on the menu we want to try!
Hello again Stacey,

I too LOVE the Soyaki sauce and use it in a zillion applications. By adding different zests, additional sesame oil, garlic, ginger, mustard, etc., you can do all kinds of wonderful things. I also eat TJ's Pound Plus Milk Chocolate Bar everyday. LOVE that store.
