Coffee Addiction: Shakerato

OK, I will admit it. I am an addict.
I am addicted to CAFFEINE. I am a zombie in the morning and can't wake up until I have had at least 2 cups of that hot brown stuff. I might die without it. I guess there are worse things one could be addicted to.

I personally like ARABICA coffee vs. Columbian. I buy Goya, Arabica Espresso in the can, it's very inexpensive and excellent, strong, but smooth. I love the Italian brands Lavazza and Miele, but they are too pricey.
You are either a Dunkin' Donuts fan or a Starbucks fan, no grey matter here. I am neither. However, I do find myself stopping in a Starbucks when I am on the road for an iced Americano (2 shots of espresso w/ a bit of water over ice), which usually puts the spring back into my step for the afternoon.

Well, lately I have been trying to "Go Green" and I am not talking about the Philadelphia Eagles football team. I have been trying to conserve gas by riding my bicycle into town (also I get less parking tickets) to do errands, washing out a zip loc plastic bag here and there (if there was just bread in it), and even using the coffee leftover in the pot from the a.m., instead of spilling it out (a real conservationist!). If I am not on the road, I make this great easy, coffee drink from the leftover coffee, which is popular in Italy.
It is probably even better with a shot of espresso flavored vodka or Campari in it, but we will save that till after 5 p.m., otherwise there will be another addiction to post about!

SHAKERATO: (makes 2 drinks)

1/2 cup of hot espresso or leftover cold coffee
1 cup of ice cubes
2 teaspoons sugar (I don't like it too sweet)
lemon peel or orange peel (use a vegetable peeler)

Blend all ingredients together in a blender, except for the lemon peel, on high for a few seconds. It will look foamy. Pour into wine or martini glasses and foam will separate from the coffee. Make sure you put the lemon or orange zest on top, it really makes a difference.

PS Decaffeinated coffee is just useless warm brown water!

Stacey,

I can't wake up without my pot of coffee in the morning either. My percolator makes 2 large mugs. Perfect amount to get me through the whole day. I want that cute Bull Terrier!
